I'm so proud of Geneane Hughes she has jumped her first hurdle by winning the primary election now she only has two more hurdles to jump the runoff and general election. I can vouch for her she can definitely do the Sheriff's job. She a Superwoman! She the energizer bunny! She keeps going and going! This young Lady is working a full time job, working on her PhD traveling out state for school writing 20 pages a week and campaigning at the same time. I'm asking everyone I know to help support her for her next hurdle the runoff election.

CDC says gatherings of more than 50 people should be canceled

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Sunday said that all gatherings — including weddings, religious services, and concerts — should be canceled as the US battles the coronavirus pandemic.

“Examples of large events and mass gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies. These events can be planned not only by organizations and communities but also by individuals,” the CDC said.

The cancelations should happen for the next 8 weeks, the CDC said.

The recommendation doesn’t apply to the daily “operation of organizations such as schools, institutes of higher learning, or businesses.”

The recommendation could have widespread implications. “These events can be planned not only by organizations and communities but also by individuals,” the CDC said, which captures parties, family events, religious assemblies, movie theaters, restaurants, bars, and much more.

Interestingly, the US Senate is set to convene on Monday.

Some models suggest the coronavirus could spread to millions in the US. Public health officials have said social distancing is one of the best ways to stop transmission, especially since people can spread the disease even if they don’t show symptoms

HISD expands free meal distribution sites, offers curbside pickup

The Houston Independent School District and the Houston Food Bank will offer curbside pickup service at all 36 food distribution sites districtwide beginning March 16 to help promote personal health and social distancing.

Families who do not have transportation and must walk to the site can continue to stand in line but will be required to stand six feet apart from each other. HISD Police and staff volunteers will be on site to enforce these measures and help with crowd control.

“Social distancing is a key measure we must implement to prevent the spread of COVID-19, so adding curbside pickup and keeping lines spaced out are important steps,” said HISD Interim Superintendent Grenita Lathan. “Thanks to our partners at the Houston Food Bank and our police and staff volunteers, we are able to safely distribute meals to our families in need during this time.”

In response to high demand on Saturday at Chavez High School, HISD and the Houston Food Bank expanded daily food distribution at 31 additional campuses – beginning Wednesday, March 18, and continuing through Friday, March 20.

The five campuses previously scheduled to serve as food distribution locations will remain unchanged on Monday, March 16, and Tuesday, March 17.

The Fox and the Grapes

Moral Stories: the fox and the grapes

One afternoon, a fox was walking through the forest and spotted a bunch of grapes hanging from a lofty branch.

“Just the thing to quench my thirst,” he thought.

Taking a couple of steps back, the fox jumped and just missed the hanging grapes. The fox tried again but still failed to reach them.

Finally, giving up, the fox turned his nose up and said, “They’re probably sour anyway,” and walked away.

Moral of the story: It’s easy to despise what you can't have.

Biden vows to select a woman as his running mate

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden committed Sunday to picking a woman for his vice president if he were to win the party’s nomination.

Speaking during a CNN-hosted primary debate with fellow candidate Bernie Sanders, Biden said: “There are a number of women who would be qualified to be president,” and that he would choose a woman as his running mate.

Biden also said that he would try to make his Cabinet reflect the demographics of the country and would choose a black woman to serve on the Supreme Court if a vacancy were to open during his presidency.

Biden had long sent signals that he would choose a woman to be his running mate as the Democratic field narrowed to the former vice president and Sanders (Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is also still in the race). Biden did not give further hints as to whom he might pick.

When asked if he would join Biden in making a similar commitment to choose a woman as a vice president, Sanders said, “In all likelihood, I will.”

“For me, it’s not just nominating a woman. It is making sure that we have a progressive woman and there are progressive women out there,” Sanders said. “So my very strong tendencies is to move in that direction.”

Sanders also committed to forming an administration that is mostly women.

“Last I heard, over half of the people in America are women,” Sanders said. “And that will be the representation in my Cabinet and in my administration.”
